FAQs

FutureGov Fellowship is a 4-month learning and career development program for university students and recent graduates from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. It equips aspiring policy practitioners with an understanding of key innovation approaches for the design and implementation of public policies, with a focus on the applications of behavioral insights, human-centered design and other methods.
The Fellowship was founded in 2020. It is delivered by a group of international development and public policy professionals, with experience in policy research, design and implementation across Southeast, Central and Eastern Europe.

The Fellowship will be a good match for you if you are driven by the desire to help improve the management of public affairs in your country and/or community. The FutureGov Fellowship attracts talented and curious individuals committed to continuous learning and growth. You will be excited about the idea of discovering new approaches to designing public policies and employing innovation methods for public good. The FutureGov community is founded on the principles of openness, respect for the diversity of backgrounds and viewpoints, and mutual support. Fellows are expected to actively demonstrate these qualities throughout the program.
You will participate in weekly learning sessions delivered through workshops, discussions, and other group activities. In a series of Horizon Talks, you will have a chance to engage in informal conversations with international experts from a variety of fields. Previous speakers have included representatives of international organizations, leading universities, and organisations on the cutting edge of public sector innovation. You will benefit from support to design your own project addressing a public policy challenge, and produce a policy note on a topic of your choice, with a possibility of publication of your piece on the Fellowship website. Career mentoring will be available for interested participants. Learning and professional development activities will be complemented by social events enabling you to build connections with other participants.
All Master’s students and recent graduates from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia are eligible to apply. Highly driven students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the time of application are also encouraged to apply. Please note that unfortunately we are currently unable to consider applications from other regions. While the majority of our applicants come from Political Science/Public Administration, Economics, Psychology, Management and Organizational Sciences, Law and other related disciplines, all backgrounds are welcome.
There is no specific age limit for applying to the Fellowship. However, only current university students and young professionals who completed their last degree not earlier than 3 years prior to submitting their application will be considered.
You can apply by submitting your CV and Cover Letter to the email address indicated on the Call for Applications. The Call for Applications for the upcoming edition of the FutureGov Fellowship is released in May of the given year. You can follow this website for all updates and information about application requirements and deadlines.
All complete applications received by the deadline are assessed on the following criteria: commitment to contributing to public good, interest in exploring a career in or related to public policy, leadership potential and motivation, as demonstrated by the candidates’ involvement in extracurricular, civic and other activities listed in the CV, and the Cover Letter. Shortlisted candidates are invited to attend an online interview with the program leadership. All applicants are informed of the outcome of their application in July of the given year.
FutureGov Fellowship is a non-residential program, organized via online communication channels from the Fellows’ places of residence. All activities take place online, after working hours and occasionally on weekends, enabling the Fellows to fit their participation in the program around other academic and professional obligations. A typical session (workshop, discussion, case analysis etc.) lasts between 1.5h and 3h. The expected time commitment is up to 10 hours/week over the course of 4 months (September – December).
Participation in the Fellowship is free of charge. We believe that one’s financial situation should not stand in the way of learning the tools and methods for improving the practice of government, be it in Southeast Europe or elsewhere around the world.

Successful completion of the FutureGov Fellowship may lead to further engagement in the program, including various aspects of its design and delivery. Exceptional alumni of past editions have joined the core program team and continue to contribute to the development of the Fellowship. Any potential future engagement is subject to mutual fit and is not guaranteed.
